Audit & Accreditation Services

IIW – IAB the International Authorization Board of the International Institute of Welding has the primary purpose of offering internationally recognized qualifications and systems for personnel and companies in the field of welding and allied technologies. Implementation and sustenance of a uniform quality benchmark for both personnel and company certification schemes are achieved a harmonized quality frame for the accreditation of services providers. Accreditation is a core function of ANBs, through which it ensures that internationally harmonized quality benchmarks are objectively implemented nationally.

Accreditation of Training Bodies

IIW-IAB International Education, Training, Qualification and Certification System, managed by IIW- IAB, is an open system that ensures that any person, anywhere in the world, has unrestricted access to education, training, qualification and certification in welding and related technologies, in accordance with international standards, (e.g. ISO, etc.). The International System is now used in more than 40 countries, and is continuing to grow rapidly worldwide.

Implementing the IIW- IAB System is underpinned by a rigorous quality assurance regime which ensures that required standards are met uniformly throughout the world in an impartial and non-discriminatory way, complying with international trade legislation.

In order to comply with these requirements, the International System’s operation is based on a network of Authorized Nominated Bodies (ANBs), each specializing in a specific scope and needing to comply with the IIW – IAB quality assurance system.

The delivery of the courses, leading to the international qualifications, is performed by Authorized Training Bodies (ATBs), which are authorized by the ANBs. Once authorized to deliver the international courses, the ATBs can operate wherever they want worldwide, within their authorized scope of operation and subject to other conditions.

ANBs are responsible for ensuring that ATBs conduct IIW courses within the approved scope of activities. An ATB is approved for a specific scope of activities with respect to the qualification level, the team of lecturers; course materials, facilities and equipment, language, location, etc., and any significant change shall be cause for re-assessment.

The Nigerian-ANB accepts application from training bodies involved in the training of welders and welding personnel who wish to achieve IIW Accreditation status to conduct IIW welding personnel training and qualification scheme courses.

Training bodies intending to achieve accreditation as IIW ATB must ensure that they acquire facilities and develop systems which adequately addresses valid requirements specified in the applicable IIW Guideline. At the discretion of the ANB, a training organisation can be approved to conduct specific topics or parts of the course. Also, a company’s ATB can be approved provided that all the requirements are met.

The Nigerian-ANB scope of training body accreditation includes:

IIW International Welder
